NOT SURE WHO TO BOOK WITH?
Choosing the right artist for your tattoo is important! Browse our
Artists Profiles to see whose style resonates with you. Our artists regularly share their work on
Instagram, so be sure to check them out there as well. We have artists skilled in all tattoo styles. If you’re unsure who to book with or looking for something simple, select
“Soonest Available Appointment” in your request. We’ll review your submission and match you with the best artist for your design or timeline.
AGE REQUIREMENTS:
You must be 18 years or older to get tattooed at Railbender Studio. We do not tattoo minors, even with parental consent. Valid identification is required.
HOW MUCH WILL MY TATTOO COST?
The cost of a tattoo is determined by the size, complexity of the piece and time spent. Our shop minimum is $120 + HST, regardless of size. Artist rates vary from $120 to $200 an hour (with some offering day rates) based on their experience and skill. For an estimate/quote, please fill out our Appointment Request Form and ensure that you choose your desired artist if you have one in mind. They will be in contact with you to discuss your tattoo. Rates do not include HST.
DEPOSITS:
Deposits are required to book an appointment. The amount required for the deposit is determined by the size and complexity of the piece (minimum deposit amount is $75). This secures your appointment date and time and gives your artist the go-ahead to begin drawing and designing your tattoo. Deposits are project specific.
PLEASE NOTE: We require at least 48 hours notice for canceling/rescheduling an appointment in order for you to retain your deposit. Deposits are non-refundable but are transferable as long as the artist has not started drawing your design. Deposits will be subtracted from the total of your final session before HST. HST is not collected on deposits.
HOW CAN I PAY FOR MY TATTOO?
We accept cash, debit, VISA and Mastercard unless otherwise mentioned. Please ask Guest Artists their payment form when booking with them directly.
SHOULD I TIP MY ARTIST?
While not required, tipping is always appreciated. If you’re happy with your tattoo and experience, consider tipping your artist as a thank-you for their work.
IS GETTING A TATTOO SAFE?
Your health and safety are our top priorities. We use sterile, single-use needles, tubes, and disposable gloves, ensure thorough disinfection of all common surfaces before and after each session, and undergo regular inspections by Ottawa Public Health.
CAN I GET TATTOOED IF I AM PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
It is not recommended to get tattooed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as the body’s systems are already stressed. If you have further questions about this, please discuss it with your doctor.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR MY TATTOO SESSION?
To ensure the best experience, we recommend getting a good night’s sleep, having a meal before your appointment, and staying hydrated. Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area and avoid tight or light-coloured clothing that could rub against your fresh tattoo. Feel free to bring snacks, water, and entertainment such as books, music, or an iPad. Avoid alcohol and blood-thinning medications for at least 24 hours before your session to reduce bleeding. We cannot tattoo over sunburns, so protect your skin before your appointment. Communicate with your artist- if you need a break or feel uncomfortable at any point, let them know.
WE LOVE YOU, BUT PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THESE OTHER GENERAL POLICIES:
No children or minors in the studio. No large meals on the premises. Avoid wearing strong fragrances. No pets allowed. We reserve the right to refuse service.
TATTOO AFTERCARE:
1- In most cases, an adhesive bandage will be placed on your tattoo. Keep it on for 12-24 hours.
2- Remove the “bandage” under running water after 12-24 hours. There may be a build up of plasma which is normal.
3- Carefully rinse your tattoo and remove any plasma buildup that may have formed. Air dry or pat dry your tattoo with a clean towel.
4- If your artist provided you with a 2nd bandage, apply it with clean hands once your tattoo is completely dry. If you were not provided with a 2nd bandage, carefully wash and moisturize your tattoo twice a day with tattoo aftercare or unscented products for 2 weeks, then refer to step 7.
5- Leave the 2nd bandage on for 6 days. Your tattoo may be itchy, but don’t scratch it.
*If you have lots of plasma build up during that time, please remove the bandage, clean the tattoo and apply tattoo aftercare products as needed.
6- After 6 days, remove bandage under running water. Your tattoo will almost be healed. Apply moisturizer/tattoo aftercare products as needed.
7- Things to avoid while healing the tattoo: do not wear tight clothing that will stick to your tattoo, avoid swimming, avoid prolonged sun exposure, avoid excessive sweating, and do not pick at it or itch it. Please protect your tattoo from the sun once healed.
